Revealing Insights into the Effects of High Self Esteem in Boys

It is vital that parents help boys determine what, exactly, determines their sense of self-esteem. 

For many boys, having high self-esteem means having strength, power, and positive physical aspects (especially being stronger than other boys).

When a boy's self esteem in organized around these physical factors, he may be at risk for becoming aggressive.  This aggressiveness could come from the unwillingness of boys to place value on caring and kind actions. 

Because our culture focuses on male strength and superiority and labels nice, kind and compassion boys as weak, many boys fake having high self esteem.

According to Ervis Staub, professor of psychology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, "Many boys who become aggressive don't have the socially valued means to gain such a positive image: competence and good performance in school, good relations with peers."

Take action today and help your son to determine that his self-esteem is based on internal aspects as well as physical ones.  Beware and think very closely about a boy and his sense of high self esteem.  Most of all ask yourself this critical question:
