Journaling: An Expanded Definition

by Jill Schoenberg

Jan 29, 2008 -- Time and again I am surprised by the limited descriptions I get when I ask someone to think about the word journaling.  Usually the response consists of descriptors such as writing, blank paper, pen, and solitary (or secretive) writing.

What is sooooooooo thrilling is that journaling can go beyond writing, way beyond in fact.

I would like to expand the definition of journaling to include ideas such as:

  • Visual journaling
  • Creative journals
  • Scrapbooking
  • Memoir journals
  • Spiritual journaling
  • Art journals
  • Journaling for Fun
  • Mixed media journals (writing, drawing, photos, scrapbook supplies...)

Blank Journals to Embellish

I love helping people understand that journals are a personal expression of ourselves and should be as unique and individual as each of us

Do yourself, your kids, your family and friends a favor and take a moment to expand your definition of journaling.

Most of all, make your journaling keeping fun, creative and fulfilling by making your journal a creative expression of YOU!

In other words, there is not a "right" way to keep a journal.  There is just journaling, and YOU get to decided what it means to you and how you want to express your beautiful and amazing self.

Happy journal keeping...
