"What If" Writing Prompts
When asking students to write
in a journal there is a time and a place for free writing and the n there is
a time for
structured, focused writing.
Personally I prefer free writing,
but with
students I find it helpful to use journal writing prompts.
If you use journaling as a tool
in your classroom, you'll want to ensure that the journal writing topics are fun for the kids and interesting to write about.
Just as an
adult, a child is more likely to write in a lively manner if they are
intrigued and excited about the topic.
Below is an incredible listing of journal writing prompts.
