Preteen Journal Writing

Journal Writing Can Increase A Pre-teen’s Self-Confidence

Self-confidence is an important quality that every pre-teen should strive to acquire. Self-confidence is what helps each individual achieve life success.

Self Confidence is the belief, in ourselves that we can overcome life challenges and achieve our goals. Self-confidence is something that we further develop throughout the pre-teen years and can be enhanced through maintaining a journal or a diary, although to some this would be an unsuspecting advantage of the recording process.

One way that journaling helps build self-confidence is by the revelation found in self-discovery. When the pre-teen writes about what is going on around and within themselves they develop ways of thinking and begin to draw conclusions about themselves and the world around them: in short, a value system. Specifically, the journal or diary exposes the pre-teen to their developing value system. From this value system, the pre-teen develops a trust in themselves. This particular kind of trust is a building block for self-confidence.

Journal writing also helps develop a pre-teen’s intuition. Intuition is that sense of quick and ready insight and it is rooted in the trust a person has in themselves. In fact, intuition is something that is developed from the trust someone has for the conclusions they have about themselves and the outside world. As the pre-teen records their life experience and develops a trust in themselves their intuition will sharpen and become more accurate.

Journaling can also be a source of self-reflection. Self-reflection can be a powerful developmental tool for any pre-teen and assist in developing their self-confidence. Reflecting on past experience becomes the foundation for positive change. Additionally, through the use of a journal for self-reflection the pre-teen can begin to develop a personal philosophy and code of personal ethics. Again, journaling can become a venue for searching and defining one’s self and from that insight personal values are cemented into place.

From an educational perspective, journaling can be a fabulous learning tool, not only for personal development purposes but also for the practical application of improving one’s courses of study. Used as a study tool the pre-teen can make a record of what they are learning and for asking themselves questions of importance to be answered as they learn more. This practice can actually be mentally stimulating. Moreover, the journal can reinforce studies and improve exam outcomes because of that reinforcement. When a pre-teen is educationally successful they develop more self-confidence in themselves and their abilities.

Personal Growth

It is a proven fact, throughout time, that journal writing enhances personal growth and development. Influential educators and psychologists have studied and written about the positive effects that journaling can have on a young person’s life. Through the media of journaling pre-teens are more likely to integrate life experiences more successfully for example. When a pre-teen is able to assimilate their life with the world around them, with minimal difficulty this builds confidence in their ability cope and adapt with whatever confronts them in their journey.

In this article, we have discussed the benefits that journaling provides in building the pre-teen’s self-confidence. All pre-teens should be encouraged by parents, family and friends, educators and medical professionals to maintain some form of recording device to document their life experiences.
